Jim Cockburn, Anita Dore and Jacki Hill prepare for the 2005 London Marathon

Members of staff from the Bromsgrove office of Foster Care Associates (FCA) are lacing their trainers as they set off to run the 2005 London Marathon to raise money for charity.

Anita Dore, Human Resources Advisor, Jacki Hill, Fleet Management Controller and Jim Cockburn, Chief Executive of FCA have been training hard for their challenge. Their aim is to raise as much money as possible for BAAF, the British Association for Adoption and Fostering.

FCA is the UK’s leading independent fostering agency, specialising in ‘difficult to place’ children. BAAF is FCA’s official chosen charity and is an organisation which aims to improve the life of children in care. BAAF provide a strong voice for these children and ensure their rights are preserved and their problems are heard, understood and solved.

Anita and Jacki have been training hard for over eight months in order to be fit enough for their first ever attempt at the London Marathon. They have previously only competed in short distance races such as Race for Life. To help with fitness, they attended a marathon training weekend in the Forest of Dean during January.

Anita comments; “Jacki and I have been sweating it out in the gym for months in preparation for this marathon, along with circuit training, hill training and cycling. We are both determined to complete it, even if we are the last two! It will be worth all of our hard work if we can contribute in this way to such an important charity.”

Jim Cockburn ran the London Marathon last year and is hoping this year to trim his time by 20 minutes. To help, he is following a training schedule which includes hill running, threshold and long distance runs.
Jim comments: “Working at FCA we can see that BAAF’s influence in present policy for children in care is invaluable. They need all the help from us that they can get in order to achieve their goals and make children in care feel safe and secure.”
