The event brought together a host of cultural art and entertainment from African and Asian communities.

Held at the Library Theatre near Birmingham's City Library, activities began at 11.30 am with an exhibition of poetry and artwork by children and young people, themed on Black Commonwealth Countries and Islands.

A surprise guest also turned up to join in the celebrations. Mark Lewis-Francis, gold medallist in the Olympic 4 x 100 metre relay for Great Britain presented a selection of achievement awards to looked after children who had contributed to the day's activities and he was then available to sign autographs.

Also included in the day's activities, Councillor Michael Nangle, Lord Mayor of Birmingham made a speech, followed by a buffet lunch offering an array of specialities from the Caribbean Islands and the Asian continent.

Rupert Bertie, Executive Director, FCA explained; "This celebration was very important to us. The day's activities all underpinned Foster Care Associates' equal opportunities policy to support and recruit from black and ethnic minorities and acknowledged FCA's shared interest in these communities."

FCA staff organised an exhibition and the day culminated with a cultural diversity performance by the FCA Midlands' young people, followed by an achievement awards ceremony for children and young people from across all of the different regions and countries.
