Llio Scoops Top Prize

A youngster from Caernarfon has proved she is handy with a paint brush after scooping top prize in a competition organised by Foster Care Associates (FCA) Cymru.

Llio Elenid Owen (13) from Groeslon and a pupil at ysgol Dyffryn Nantlle, took part in the FCA mosaic painting competition held at this year’s Urdd Eisteddfod. Entitled ‘Law yn Llaw gyda’n Gilydd” – “Hand in Hand Together’ the competition invited entrants to submit designs which would help create a mosaic wall hanging. The final piece was made up of 350 individual artworks representing the shortfall of foster carers across Wales.

Llio’s creative talents won her a VIP night out with her family and friends including a visit to the cinema and a meal.

“I was thrilled to have won this prize as I never expected my design to be chosen by the judges. Thanks to FCA I’m really looking forward to a special night out with my family and friends,” said Llio.

Organiser Emma Davies who works as PR & marketing manager at FCA Cymru commented: “We were amazed at the number of entries our competition attracted and we now have a stunning mosaic frieze on display in our regional head quarters in Colwyn Bay.

“The theme of the competition aimed to raise awareness of the work which FCA carries out in partnership with foster carers, foster children and local authorities. It is a reflection of the continuing team effort which is needed to ensure the best possible outcomes are achieved for children in our care.”
