Refugee week (14th – 20th June 2010) sparks Muslim foster carer recruitment drive

June 21, 2010

During Refugee Week, FCA London & Kent have launched a campaign to recruit more foster carers to take Sanctuary Seeking placements in the Croydon area.  Historically the region receives a high number of referrals for Sanctuary Seeking Placements; therefore a recruitment drive for carers from Muslim backgrounds was seen as a high priority in the recruitment campaign.

A two-week campaign was planned and implemented, targeting various locations and hot spots in the Croydon area, including bilingual leaflet drops outside local mosques, and local newspaper advertisements.

The bilingual leaflets were written in Urdu and Dari, and were used to announce the event in the local area.  We also collaborated with a local mosque in Croydon, which agreed to hand out our leaflets and make announcements after each prayer informing people about fostering.

Yusuf (FCA Development Officer for Sanctuary Seeking Placements) arranged for a teacher from an Islamic School to attend the event who provided a 15 minute commentary on Islam and fostering.

The event was a great success and enjoyed by all.
