Tyneslide Zip Wire Challenge!
May 21, 2010
Staff from FCA North East recently took park in a zip wire challenge in order to raise funds for Marie Curie. For one weekend a year, hundreds of people bravely hurl themselves off the iconic Tyne Bridge attached to a zip wire, travelling at speeds of up to 30mph, before coming to a stop on the other side of the River Tyne at HMS Calliope on the South Bank.
Pushing themselves to the limit in this challenge were seven members of our Fostering Team, including our regional manager Sue Waller.
Sue commented: “I woke up on the day of the jump to the wind and rain beating down heavily and I thought “Great, it might be cancelled!”
“However the team spirit was high and as usual in the North East, we rally round and support each other and that day was no exception. The nerves kicked in for most people as we set foot on the bridge. For me getting over the rail and onto the ledge on the outside of the bridge was the hardest part. As the time drew nearer to our jump the weather cleared and the sun shone – thankfully! We had the best weather of the day!”
Each member of the FCA Fostering Team was tasked with raising money from friends, family and colleagues and all in all, we managed to raise £1200 for Marie Curie Cancer Care, which is a fantastic amount going to a very worthy cause.
