Foster Care Fortnight Cycle Challenge - 2 Countries, 2 Offices

May 20, 2010

For Foster Care Fortnight 2010, FCA Western's Chris and Morris are cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats to raise awareness of fostering and also raise money for Bulgarian NGO For our Children.

Day 5 of the Cycle Challenge

The FCA Bristol and Cardiff Offices seized the opportunity to raise awareness of fostering in Bristol and fostering in Cardiff as well as Foster Care Fortnight 2010, as Chris and Morris took a break from their intensive pedaling schedules to pay each office a visit. In particular, this offered the FCA Bristol office an opportunity to deliver a proud welcome to their 2 brave staff members who are taking on the Cycle Challenge 2010.

The FCA Bristol team had laid out two exercise bikes in the front car park of the office for volunteers to take turns in cycling through the day and a raffle to raise money for the For Our Children organisation. And there was also a small surprise in store for the guys.

“Without warning, suddenly we were surrounded by clones of ourselves. The place had become Planet of the Benjamins & Goodings! It was scary!” Morris explained. “This is home,” Chris replied, “But the sooner we get out of here the better!”

”We decided the safest course of action was to stay cool and go along with things for now, waiting for a chance to escape. So we were very relieved to escape into the traffic of Whiteladies Road. Some of the clones spilt out of the office car park and stumbled along the pavement, but fortunately fell by the wayside as we got into our stride!

“Before long we found ourselves in familiar countryside and soon reached the mighty Severn Bridge.

“Having crossed over into Wales, at Newport we suffered our first pneumatic disaster – Morris had 2 punctures within a few miles (I think it was the same puncture come back for another go).

”However, we made it through to the Cardiff Office alright in the end for a warm reception from the team.”

Statistics for the Day:
Distance covered = 49 miles
Max speed = 39 mph
Average speed = 13.7 mph (that's when we're moving; stopped periods not included)
Punctures = 2
