Chester Auction House Puts Jermain Defoe Shirt Under The Hammer

February 17, 2010

England and Spurs striker, Jermain Defoe is putting his muscle behind an initiative which recognises the sporting achievements of foster children.

On Wednesday, February 24, a signed shirt worn by Defoe during the Holland v England friendly match last year will go under the hammer at Chester auctioneers, Bonhams.

Having donated the shirt to leading foster care agency, Foster Care Associates (FCA), Jermain was pleased that the monies raised would help launch the FCA Football Masterclass.

This new initiative set up by FCA, will enable talented foster children to develop their football skills by attending a three day coaching programme, run by Cardiff Football Club.

“It is especially encouraging to see an organisation such as FCA embracing the sporting efforts of children in foster care.  I’m honoured to be part of this new project and hope it will play a role in raising their achievements and sporting prowess,” said Jermain.

FCA regional learning and development manager, Rob Jewell said:  “We are all thrilled to launch the new Football Initiative which has only been made possible thanks to the kind support of Jermain.  We hope that our auction at Bonhams in Chester will encourage football fans both young and old to place their bids and ultimately support looked children and young people in the care system.”

FCA is the UK’s leading independent foster care organisation with 70 offices operating throughout England, Wales, Scotlandand Ireland.  Working in partnership with 180 local authorities and health trusts, FCA aims to provide ‘quality care in a family setting’ for over 2500 foster children who are looked after by FCA’s 2300 foster families.
