Wheelie fun day in Birmingham for Foster Families

May 25, 2010

Foster families from Birmingham put the wheels in motion to celebrate this year’s Foster Care Fortnight (May 17 – 30, 2010) at Wheels Park in Saltley, Birmingham.

Flying the flag for fostering, the charity fun-day was organised by Foster Care Associates (FCA) and took place on Saturday, May 22, 2010.  It was part of FCA’s UK Cycle Challenge which sees two employees cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groat’s, in aid of the Bulgarian charity ‘For Our Children’.

Stopping off at Birmingham Wheels Park, the two intrepid cyclists (Morris Gooding and Chris Benjamin) joined in with the celebrations before FCA staff waved the chequered flag to send them off on the next leg of their journey.

Commenting, FCA deputy CEO, Alison Banks said: “By launching this type of initiative, FCA aims to help raise awareness of fostering and the desperate need to recruit new foster carers.

Addressing the shortage of foster carers in the UK

“Currently in the UK there is a shortfall of 10,000 foster carers and, as the UK’s largest independent fostering agency we are well positioned to launch a national campaign. Our Birmingham event has been particularly poignant since the agency was first founded in Bromsgrove some 16 years ago.”

She added: “Foster carers come from all walks of life.  What we are looking for are people who can make a positive and lasting difference to the lives of children and young people living in the UK care system.”

FCA welcomes applications from single people, married, cohabiting and same sex couples.  Anyone who is interested in finding out more about fostering should call FCA national freephone 0800 023 4561 or complete our enquire online form.
