No Barriers for the Core Assets Group

August 16, 2011

Fostering with Foster Care Associates Foster Care Associates (FCA) is proud to announce that parent company, the Core Assets Group, has received an award for equality and diversity.

In June 2011, Core Assets was awarded ‘No Barriers’ status by Vice Chairman of Bromsgrove District Council, Caroline Spencer, for the support in place for parents of children with disabilities. The No Barriers award recognises local businesses who provide an inclusive workforce and adequate access for disabled people and carers.

Receiving recognition

The No Barriers award serves as recognition for FCA’s strong equality and diversity program both in our staff and foster carer recruitment practices. FCA aims to encourage and promote an inclusive workforce that meets the expectations of the six recognised strands of diversity: age, disability, gender, race and ethnicity, religion and belief and sexual orientation.

FCA and Core Assets not only seek to discourage discrimination across the board but also offer active support groups for employees, including a group for parents with disabled children.

The Parents of Children with Disabilities group regularly meets to discuss support structures and policies surrounding the care of their disabled children. The group is actively driving forward employment equality for staff who may need a more flexible approach to their working hours and structure of their day in order to support their disabled children.

Following the nomination for the No Barriers award, a Disabled Access Group panel discussed the evidence and unanimously agreed that the Parents of Children with Disabilities group is a creative and innovative way of improving access to employment for families and carers of disabled children.

The benefits of equality and diversity

Equality and Diversity Co-ordinator for Core Assets, Stuart Bray, is an active member of the Parents of Children with Disabilities group and finds the meetings invaluable as a working parent.

“There is a wealth of knowledge and experience in the group that validates the support and guidance that is shared,” says Stuart. “I have always been very proud to work for Core Assets and this only adds to the way I feel valued within the organisation.”

Having been awarded recognition for exemplary equality and diversity practices, Core Assets hopes to encourage more people to become involved in equality and diversity groups to help make a difference to the experiences of staff and foster carers in the workplace.
