Residential migration
Residential Migration Placements are designed to give children and young people who are currently living in residential care the chance to live as part of a family with the continued support of skilled childcare professionals.
Foster Care Associates (FCA) are building on the proven success of their Team Parenting® approach by helping children and young people make the transition to family care. The clinically supported fostering placements can strengthen the resilience and enhance the outcomes and opportunities of the children and young people involved.
Foster carers are chosen for Residential Migration Placements based on their high level of experience, their extensive childcare knowledge and their own resilience in dealing with the challenging situations that may arise.
All FCA Residential Migration Placements foster carers receive high levels of training to enable them to cope with situations which may arise such as:
- Severe needs
- Aggression
- Offending behaviour
- Absconding
- Exclusion from school
- Sexual exploitation
Matching Residential Migration Placements
A key element of the Residential Migration process for FCA is matching the right child to the right foster carer. Experience has shown that getting these two factors right can determine how well the child or young person is able to make the secure attachments that lead to a positive outcome.
Clinical Support
Clinical support is provided in the form of a therapy service involving the looked after child, the foster carers and also the childcare professionals. As part of the Team Parenting® approach the clinical support plays a pivotal role as it draws together all the professional resources involved in providing support for the specific needs of the child or young person going forward.
Placement Support
Residential Migration Placements foster carers are assigned a fully qualified Supervising Social Worker who maintains regular contact with them and the children or young person in their care. This support consists of weekly contact and monthly supervision sessions to monitor progress and ensure the right levels of support are being provided. This is supplemented by an ‘out of hours’ team of experienced staff including child support workers and social workers who are contactable 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Education Support
Education is a top priority due to its obvious benefits in terms of structure and routine that regular school attendance provides. Our Education Officer is available to assist in areas such as finding a suitable school or making decisions on whether home education is best depending upon the individual child or young person and their circumstances. The role of the Education Officer is also to help a child or young person to ‘settle in’ well and to adapt quickly to life in foster care. The involvement of an Education Officer in the Residential Migration Placement process is often a contributing factor to improved behaviour in the home.
Children and Young People Support Service
With a specialist team of support workers in place the child or young person is encouraged to fully access the communities in which they live. The CYPSS team are dedicated to actively supporting the participation of the child or young person in social activities in their local area. This helps to promote skills for independent living as well as building confidence for social interaction.
Measuring Outcomes for Children and Young People
Key Developmental Assets (KDA) is a recording tool developed by FCA for foster carers to note the daily progress of a child’s achievements on a day to day basis. This information then enables the foster carers to identify the developmental needs of the young people in their care. Compatibly designed to work within the Every Child Matters framework, KDA can help local authorities see that the best outcomes possible are being delivered for individual children.
