Recording Children’s Development

At FCA, we believe that through recording children’s development we can assess the outcomes that we achieve through Team Parenting™.

Using a system called Key Developmental Assets (KDA), our carers record the successes of the children and young people in their care.

Key Developmental Assets (KDA) is a secure online recording system for foster carers to keep track of their placement history and the development of each young person who has been placed.

KDA focuses on identifying and nurturing the positive experiences, relationships, opportunities, and personal qualities that young people need to grow into healthy, caring, and responsible adults. Developed to address the needs of our foster carers, as well as the needs of our young people, KDA is intended to make it easier for carers to demonstrate the positive and lasting difference they help to create.

How do you use Key Developmental Assets (KDA)?

KDA is a simple online form which lists the 20 Key Developmental Assets that have the biggest effect on a child’s development. These include 12 External Assets, or outside influences, as well as 8 Internal Assets, or observations from within the home.

When each of these Assets is combined, it’s easy to look back and see a clear picture of how the young person is progressing in all aspects of their life and where our carers can lend an extra hand if they need to. This helps to make placements as happy as possible for carers and children now, as well as helping to encourage success for the future.

How to access KDA

When you’re approved as a carer with FCA, you’ll receive an induction pack full of all the information you need, including KDA and how to access the CarerNet portal.

If you’re an existing foster carer with FCA, you can access your KDA through the CarerNet portal. Just log in to CarerNet with your details and click on the KDA logo. There’s no need to log in again and your information and placement history will be ready for you.
