Claudette Cole, Operations Manager
Region: Midland
What qualifications do you need for this job?
I have a CQSW and a Degree in Social Studies. I also hold a Diploma in Management Studies
When did you start with FCA?
April 2000
What made you move to FCA?
I worked as a local authority social worker for many years having responsibility for progressing care plans for children placed in long term care. I gained a range of experience through this work and came to a point where I wanted a change in career and direction. I was drawn to FCA not only because I knew someone who had worked for FCA and was curious to see if it was really that good. I had heard it was a company that really put children’s needs first and I wanted to be a part of that.
What does a typical day involve?
Well no day is the same. ..this is no bad thing!! In my role as Operations Manager, I am responsible along with my colleagues and Director in the strategic leadership of our region. My day can range from supporting Team Managers on case issues or staffing issues to working hands on in the placement teams to discussing the financial status of the region. There are times when you have to turn your hand to any role if the need requires! My responsibilities range from supervising social work team mangers, education professionals and managing services to support young people. You quickly learn in FCA to transfer skills knowledge and experience and learn new ones. I enjoy the variety to my role and it has certainly helped me in having a rounded knowledge on all aspects of the region.
What development opportunities have you had since working for FCA?
I count myself as being in a privileged position in FCA and value the company’s belief in me. I have been promoted from a Social Worker to a Senior Social Worker to a Team Manager to Operations Manager. I have also worked now in two regions within the FCA company all in the space of 8 eight years and I think I am still relatively young!
FCA offers a range of internal training courses for all staff and I have benefited from the companies Management Development Programmes and being able to complete my Diploma in Management Studies in 2005. I have been involved in a range of initiatives at a company wide level and feel that I have been able to contribute to some polices and processes that have taken place within the company.
What are the best things about working in FCA?
Working for a company that is diverse in its make up across many positions. Working for a company that just keeps changing because it is creative and innovative. Working for a company that values staff and wants us to work hard but will allow us the opportunity to have fun while we do
