Key Developmental Assets (KDA)

At FCA, we believe in investing in the futures of looked after children and young people. Together with our carers, we’ve always worked hard to protect children’s welfare and development. Our focus is to provide a secure home environment for young people, while simultaneously addressing their ability to lead healthy, productive and happy lives well into the future.

With this in mind, FCA has developed Key Developmental Assets (KDA). KDA is our unique, strengths-based approach to ensuring looked after young people have access to the opportunities they need for a brighter future. Through KDA, we can directly evidence the day-to-day achievements of children in care and quickly and accurately identify their developmental needs.

How does KDA work?

KDA is a carefully researched list of 20 Key Developmental Assets. These consist of 12 External Assets and 8 Internal Assets, recording the lives of young people both in and out of the home environment.

Once a week, our foster carers note the progress of a looked after child in regards to each Asset. Combined, these form a detailed record of how the young person is progressing. This helps us to be certain of the success of our placements and means that we are able to tailor the services we provide in order to ensure a positive and lasting difference is made to the life of every young person in our care.
