Jim Cockburn FCA Executive Chairman
FCA Executive Chairman, Jim Cockburn, has over thirty years experience in the Social Care field. This includes being Team Leader for a Local Authority in one of the most deprived areas of the country. Jim Cockburn’s experiences there led him to help develop resources for the local community such as a Women’s refuge, a visiting service for the elderly, a sponsored childminding service, and a Bengali community centre.
Following these experiences, Jim Cockburn completed a research-based degree, which resulted in the publication of a well received book, “Team Leaders and Team Managers in Social Services”.
Jim Cockburn’s particular interest in fostering and how Local Authorities were failing to provide quality services to looked after children resulted in him setting up Midlands Foster Care Associates (FCA) with Jan Rees in 1994. The growth in this business enabled them to fund the start up of other regional FCA businesses, which were eventually amalgamated into FCA Limited in 2001. Foster Care Associates (FCA) is now the UK’s largest Independent Fostering Agency (IFA), with over 80 offices across the UK.
Foster Care Associates (FCA) is part of The Core Assets Group of companies, of which Jim Cockburn is Executive Chairman.
Jim Cockburn is a qualified Social Worker with a degree in English and a Masters in Social Work from the University of East Anglia.
