What We Do

By supporting foster carers and working closely with families, local authorities and others, FCA can offer all children and young people the chance to achieve their full potential.

Over the last two decades a move away from residential care to fostering, together with the development of specific child care plans, has been beneficial for many children who find themselves in the ‘looked after’ system.

However there remain those who, because of their levels of deprivation or abuse, are far more challenging.

FCA has been designed to support foster carers around the clock in their work with these children.

We work collaboratively with birth relatives, local authority colleagues and other agencies to ensure that children and young people have the chance to develop successfully.

Safeguarding their physical and emotional welfare is our focus at all times – protecting them from all forms of abuse.

Family contact and friendships are encouraged and supported. Educational achievement is promoted and young people are helped to develop skills for independent living.

The needs of children and young people in relation to gender, religion, ethnic origin, language, culture, disability and sexuality receive priority attention.

And at all times, we remember that the child is more important than the system – whenever possible FCA seek the views of children and young people on all issues that affect their daily lives and futures.
