Black Workers’ Forum

The Black Workers’ Forum gives the organisation further opportunity to support its Black and minority ethnic employees – and ensure that their views are reflected in policies, procedures and services.

The Forum is an inclusive group open to all employees who consider themselves to be Black and from a minority ethnic group. The term Black is used in its wide political sense, referring to those who perceive themselves as ‘non white’ and subject to racism on the basis of their skin colour.

As well as benefiting the agency, foster carers, children and the community through representing the views of Black and minority ethnic staff, the Forum also promotes best practice in embracing and managing any resultant change throughout the organisation.

Since its inception in 2000, the work of the Forum has included issues such as:

  • The recruitment and retention of black carers
  • The recruitment and retention of black staff
  • Meeting the placement needs of black and minority ethnic children and young people
  • A guide to good practice; promoting the positive cultural and racial identity of Black children.
