Religion and belief in foster care

Wherever possible, FCA seeks to place children and young people of a certain religion or religious background with foster carers of the same religion in order to support and promote their heritage. However, foster carers at FCA are encouraged to promote the religious beliefs of looked after children and young people regardless of their own.

FCA also provides comprehensive pre- and post-approval training to encourage care provision from all foster carers that respects the religion or belief of children and young people in care with specific cultural needs.

Religious beliefs in foster care

At FCA, we believe in promoting the welfare of all children and young people, and protecting their identity and individuality. When meeting with potential foster carers who can undertake this task, we do not discriminate on the grounds of religious beliefs or practices.

When it comes to religion and belief in foster care, there are certain typically religious traits that can be extremely beneficial to the fostering task, such as empathy and patience. Similarly, however, certain religious beliefs are widely considered to be incompatible with the task of fostering, the most notable of which is intolerance.

Regardless of their religion, FCA asks all our foster carers to accept and promote the identity of all children and young people over and above their personal beliefs.
