Foster carer gender

FCA considers potential foster carers of both genders to be equally capable of making a positive and lasting difference in the lives of looked after children and young people.

At FCA, we recruit foster carers of both genders as single foster carers and foster families. All carers, including male foster carers, female foster carers and transgender foster carers, each have a unique approach to fostering which is equally as valuable and life changing as the next.

Male fostering

A long held stigma in foster care is the impression that male foster carers are less capable in some way than female foster carers.

At FCA, we have a number of male carers – both single and part of a fostering family – who are fostering successfully and providing a stable and supportive home environment for many children and young people.

Transgender fostering

At FCA, we encourage the recruitment of transgender people who wish to become foster carers. FCA actively supports LGBT rights and appreciates that every single one of our foster carers brings with them a unique blend of knowledge, compassion and experience with which to support our looked after children and young people.

For more information about transgender fostering or LGBT fostering with FCA, or to discuss becoming a foster carer yourself, please give us a call on 0800 023 4561 or enquire online today.
