It’s testament to FCA’s record of successful placements that the agency’s scale and scope of operation is constantly expanding in order to meet demand.

There are now over 80 offices across the UK – meeting the needs of 1,774 foster families (July 2007).

There are 2,002 children and young people placed with FCA foster carers (July 2007).

68% of these children/young people have been in placement with FCA for twelve months or more.

32% of children/young people placed with FCA are defined by their placing Authority as Long Term Placements.

18% of the children/young people placed are of black or ethnic minority origin.

39% of the children/young people placed are female - 61% are male

57.5% of the children/young people placed are the subject of court orders - of these, 71% are subject to full care orders granted under the Children Act 1989 and 29% are subject to interim orders.

The majority of children/young people placed with FCA foster carers are in the 8-16 age range (77%) with 13-16 year olds (42%) being the largest group.

With placement requests outstripping the number of foster carers with suitable vacancies, recruitment continues to be high priority. During the period July 2006 - July 2007 the number of FCA's approved foster carer households has increased by 11%.

The number of children/young people in FCA placements at July 2007 is 7% higher than in July 2006.
