How much will I receive?
The amount you receive in foster care payments varies from placement to placement. We understand that some children have more challenging needs and requirements than others, and that sometimes you’ll need a helping hand. Factors such as this, along with the age of the child being placed with you and the type of placement, can all affect the allowances and fostering payments you’ll receive. What can it be used for?
We provide you with a fostering fee that takes into account the costs of living with a foster child. These can include food, household bills and everyday living. We don’t advise you how to spend your fostering allowance; this is for you to decide based on the needs of the looked after child and your family.
Is tax relief available for foster carers?
When you foster with us, you’re classed as self-employed. That means you’ll be entitled to certain tax exemptions. You’ll also continue to receive any benefits you may already be entitled to. To find out more, visit our benefits and tax section.
