Fostering – A Challenging Reward

December 13, 2006

The challenging work of being a foster carer can bring with it a huge amount of reward for anyone who is prepared to stay the course and commit to the role.

The UK’s leading independent fostering agency, Foster Care Associates (FCA) believes carers should be fully supported and trained in order to fulfil their roles and appreciate the many benefits which can be derived from positive fostering.

With over 80 offices across the UK and Ireland, FCA prides itself on offering the best possible care for looked after children and young people who may have experienced physical, sexual or mental abuse. These children desperately seek the security of a stable home environment and the guidance of a fully supportive foster carer.

All FCA foster carers are provided with a 24 hour wrap around service which draws on the expertise from a number of professionals including social workers, therapists, education liaison officers as well as support workers. FCA is also dedicated to training its carers, so that they are well informed and equipped to cope with a host of complex issues.

Commenting, FCA Thames Valley recruitment manager, Sally Pitcher says: “Foster carers play a pivotal role in the lives of looked after children and FCA aims to provide a truly first class support service for all its carers.

"Currently we are looking to recruit new carers who believe they have the understanding, dedication and grit to take up this role. We really need to find a cross-section of local foster carers who are able to cope with the diverse needs and backgrounds of our looked after children who are aged 10 years plus. A good sense of humour and commitment to achieving positive outcomes has to be a priority. We welcome enquiries from prospective single or co-habiting carers.”

Sally adds: “For many looked after children and young people a stable and secure foster home is critical to their long term social and academic achievements. Working closely with foster carers, FCA aims to help these children turn their ambitions and dreams into a reality.”
