FCA forged positive partnerships across the water this month (May) when staff were invited to take part in the 36th Annual Education Conference, held in Texas, USA.
Hosted by the National Foster Parent Association, Afshan Ahmad, FCA National Life Story Work Coordinator, carried out a presentation to delegates on the importance of life story work. As an international speaker at the Conference, she highlighted the pioneering efforts FCA has undertaken to improve the lives of looked after children and young people. In particular, Afshan demonstrated the interactive tools which FCA has created to help these children develop a strong sense of identity and belonging.
Conference delegates included foster carers and adopters as well as social workers and other care professionals from across the US. FCA was applauded for its excellent and innovative work in the fostering field and for the high standards it upholds.
Commenting on the Conference, Afshan said: “The Conference offered the ideal platform to raise key issues which currently face the fostering sector.
“These are positive steps forward and we hope that by forging links overseas, FCA will make a valuable contribution towards shaping the future of fostering on a global basis.”
