A razzmatazz of cultural music and arts came together in honour of Black History Month, when Foster Care Associates (FCA) staged a day of celebration.

The event held on Wednesday, October 25, took place at the Sutton Coldfield Town Hall. Entitled ‘Creation of Understanding’ it included an eclectic mix of performing arts, interactive workshops, exhibitions and displays involving looked after children and young people. Fine cuisine from around the world was served during lunch.

Around 500 guests attended the event which aimed to celebrate the positive contributions black people have made to today’s society. Part of the day’s programme also included a presentation of certificates to looked after children and young people in recognition of their creative talents and achievements.

FCA’s black workers group chair and event organiser, Jeanne Wilson, commented: “In bringing together people from different backgrounds and religions, we are able to share in a wealth of experiences brought to us by black people.

“By embracing the creativity of so many talented individuals, FCA is proud to demonstrate its appreciation of our multi-cultural society. Black History Month has provided the ideal platform to make this a reality.”

FCA is the UK’s leading independent foster care agency with a network of 80 offices. Working closely with many local authorities, it provides quality foster care for looked after children and young people who sometimes display challenging behaviour or are from ethnic minority backgrounds.
